Mrs. Worley’s fourth block creative writing class turned creative writing into art when they created their narrative story characters into 3D characters. Mrs. Worley says she wanted them to “develop a character from scratch instead of just coming up with one”. She gave them a ziploc bag of random objects and had to come up with a interesting character on their own and wrote a narrative story about them. They then created 3D characters themselves. For example, some used clay and some used yarn. One students actually had a little doll made exactly like their character! Mrs. Worley also says that this activity “generates a complete different way of thinking”. It made the students dig into their creative side and create something how they wanted. The students learned how to use descriptive language and dialogue and indirect and direct characterizations. She was very pleased with everyone’s character and story. Mrs. Worley thinks it was a very fun project and would most definitely do it again!
